Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan Foundation

I am currently having my art displayed on the 3rd floor of Saskatoon City Hospital. My artwork will be displayed there until February 28th. A fairly large portion of all my money made through sales of my art during this time will be donated to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan and the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation.

Here are the links to these two very deserving charities.

My First Portrait

RosenhekcommThis is the results of my first portrait. When I first began the drawing I grossly underestimated the time it would take. Firstly because of the subtleties with the lighting of the children. Secondly with just how long drawing all the contours and individual strands of hair would take, overlapping strands, shine and the delicacy needed so the hair didn’t wind up looking like yarn.  All told it took about 130 hours to draw. I estimated between 80-100 hours, but no matter how long it takes I will always sacrifice more of my time for the sake of my art rather than sacrifice my art so I can finish more quickly. I need to thank Michael for the chance to draw his beautiful children, I really enjoyed working on this commission. Thank you to my photographer Grant Kernan at AK Photos for his amazing skill at capturing all the details in the drawing and Darrell Tank at 5 pencil drawing method for teaching me so much about drawing hair.

On the Hunt

Custom Name Kevin Hastings 0461_eqOn the Hunt is completed. This beautiful guy is a Harris Hawk skimming about 6 feet off the ground. I don’t know about you , but he looks to me like he has something marked for meal time. I love the way he turned out with his feathers folded up as the wind screams by beneath him.
